Project Summary

The Mandala project started with a series of drawings by local community members, which were used as inspiration for our artisan teams' large-scale mandala designs and smaller individual mandalas placed throughout the inside of the building. The mosaic panels range from 2 ft to 15 ft diameter. A Certificate of Achievement was awarded to each artisan to celebrate their talents and dedication in making this project a huge success.

Piece by Piece led community workshops engaging Legal Aid clients and staff from throughout LAFLA service areas in the design and making of mosaics for the new headquarters building. Our plan invited constituencies of LAFLA satellite offices as well as the community local to the new Headquarters in Pico Union to engage in fun, family-friendly art workshops suited to all ages and abilities to provide input on designs for mosaic mandalas.

Much appreciation goes out to the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles for making this project possible. LAFLA provides civil legal aid for low-income communities across Los Angeles County.
